Clinical Psychologist, Catherine Ebert

CATHERINE EBERT

I am a Clinical Psychologist and I am eager to work with people to create change within their lives. I understand that people have experienced great distress and that they feel consumed and overwhelmed by their current symptoms. My aim is for people to feel safe, understood, and supported within our therapeutic relationship. I am passionate about being able to assist them to develop confidence so that that they can reduce the intensity of their symptoms, feel more in control of their lives, and to achieve their goals. I also liaise closely with the GP's, Neurologists and Psychiatrists who have referred people to our Clinic so that all concerns can be addressed as best as possible.

My approach to therapy is to decide which Therapeutic Skills will provide the best outcome for each person. I specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (informed as provided individually), Schema Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have had extensive experience in Private Practice providing therapy for Adolescents, Adults, and Older Adults. I specialise in providing therapy for people presenting with Depression, Anxiety Disorders (eg., OCD, PTSD, Social Anxiety, Worry, and Phobias), Bipolar Disorder, Grief, and Psychosis. I also specialise in providing therapy for people adjusting to acute and chronic health disorders including Pain, Chronic Fatigue, Migraines, Irritable Bowel, Functional neurological Symptoms and Psychophysiological Dizziness or Vertigo. I am also able to provide Body Dysmorphia Assessments for Cosmetic Procedures, as well as provide psychological intervention for symptoms of Body Dysmorphia.

As well as working in Private Practice I have also been employed in Aged Care Psychiatry, Prince of Wales Hospital for over 20 years. Within this role I provided therapy to Older Adults for Anxiety, Depression, Psychosis, Bipolar Disorder, Grief, and Carer Stress. I also performed Neuropsychological Assessments to assist with a Diagnosis of Dementia. In addition I provide Behavioural Intervention for clients with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia. I have recently developed Programs for Older Clients and I have developed and presented research on these programs.

It is my passion to be able to provide psychological support and intervention for older adults at home or within Aged Care Facilities. I provide bulk billing for pensioners and clients within Aged Care Facilities

I have been employed at Mt Wilga Rehabilitation Hospital for two years. During this time I provided psychological intervention for clients with chronic pain, recovery post surgical procedures, as well as clients with chronic fatigue and Functional Neurological Disorder

As part of my Private Practice, I am part of the Wellness Team with La Pointe Family Law. I provide the opportunity for people to connect and receive psychological support during their time of distress during separation and the divorce process.

I have obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Degree from Macquarie University and a Masters (Clinical) Psychology from the University of New South Wales. I am a Full Member of the Australian Psychological Society and a member of the College of Clinical Psychologists. I am registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (Reg#: PSY00012611922).

I have been a Registered Nurse, Midwife, and Early Childhood Nurse before I studied Psychology. I have three adult children and understand the difficulties they face as well as the challenges of being a parent.

I am excited to be able to work with people and I am committed to helping them regain their lives.
